In most societies it is the principal institution for the socialization of children. Extended from the human "family unit" by biological-cultural affinity, marriage, economy, culture, tradition, honour, and friendship are concepts of family that are physical and metaphorical, or that grow increasingly inclusive extending to community, village, city, region, nationhood, global village and humanism. A family group consisting of a father, mother and their children is called a nuclear family. This term can be contrasted with an extended family.

Ezequiel Ander Egg, (b. 1929, [Bernardo Larroude province of La Pampa]]) is an educator, sociologist, essayist and Argentine epistemologist. He is a survivor of an execution by the Triple A, so he lived years in exile in Spain. He was formed in Political Science, National University of Cuyo (Argentina). He is a consultant for the OAS-Organization of American States, has published articles on social work, doing both theoretical and practice of that science. His product is intellectual paradigm "Methodology of Community Development," adding the master theory Presbístero John L. Lebret and the School of Human Economics. His credit is the extension of such topics as ecology, Sociology, Socio-Cultural, Education, Social work. Research.
